Abstract

The study aimed at examining TVET-related Indigenous Knowledge and Skills (IKS) in Ethiopia to enhance cultural preservation and sustainable development. Using a qualitative descriptive design and a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis across ten regions, revealing a wealth of IKS in traditional entertainment. The data were qualitatively analyzed. Findings indicate that while IKS remain vital to local livelihoods, they are underutilized in formal TVET systems due to modernization, lack of documentation, and policy gaps. Thus, the study recommends Curriculum Development and Integration, Capacity Building for Trainers, Employment-Focused Skill Development, Research and Community Collaboration and Policy and Institutional Support.
