Abstract

The main objective of this study was to determine the proportion of the mixed research approach in a continuum mathematically. To this end, I used concepts from Plane Geometry; followed different procedures to draw a geometrical figure; and conducted calculations using the Pythagoras Theorem and the proportional reasoning. With such procedures, I found that the mixed research approach accounted for a dominant (70.67%) of the continuum. while extreme views at either end were minimal, each representing only 14.67%. Consequently, I concluded that the mixed research approach is mathematically defined in terms of its proportion in the continuum of a research process consisting of the majority (70.67%); and being extreme view is minimal (14.67% for each opposite direction), approaching to either direction of the continuum. These findings imply the applicability of the mixed research approach in various research arenas including TVET research.
